Flooring Care & Maintenance Guide

Thank you for trusting Sawyer's Flooring with your home. Proper care and maintenance will help protect your investment, preserve your flooring's appearance, and support your manufacturer's warranty.

Always follow your flooring manufacturer's care instructions, as warranty requirements may vary by product.

Routine Care

Routine Care

Following these simple habits will help keep your floors looking their best:

  • Sweep, dust mop, or vacuum regularly to remove dirt and grit.
  • Clean spills immediately.
  • Place mats at exterior entrances to reduce tracked-in debris.
  • Use felt pads beneath furniture legs.
  • Lift furniture whenever possible. Never drag it across the floor.
  • Keep pet nails trimmed to help minimize scratches.

Sawyer's Tip: Dirt and sand act like sandpaper under your shoes. A quality entry mat is one of the easiest ways to protect your floors.

Products to Avoid

Unless specifically approved by your flooring manufacturer, avoid using:

  • Bleach
  • Amonnia-based cleaners
  • Vinegar or homemade cleaning solutions
  • Wax or polish products
  • Abrasive scrubbers or steel wool
  • Steam mops on hard surface flooring
  • Harsh solvents or chemicals

Sawyer's Tip: Using more cleaner doesn't make your floors cleaner. Excess product can leave behind residue that attracts dirt and dulls the finish.

Carpet Care & Manufacturer Warranty

Routine maintenance is essential for keeping your carpet looking its best and maintaining your manufacturer's warranty.

  • Vacuum regularly using a quality vacuum.
  • Blot spills immediately. Never rub stains.
  • Use manufacturer-approved spot cleaning products.

  • Have your carpet professionally hot water extracted (steam cleaned) at the intervals required by your manufacturer. Most manufacturers require every 18 months to uphold the warranties.
  • Keep all professional cleaning receipts and service records.

Important: Many carpet manufacturers require proof of professional cleaning if a warranty claim is submitted. Failure to follow your manufacturer's required maintenance schedule will void warranty coverage.
