Getting Your Home Ready
For Your Flooring Installation
Getting Ready
Thank you for choosing Sawyer’s Flooring. Please review this guide before your installation date and contact your salesperson with any questions.
Prepare Your Home
- Secure pets and keep children away from the work area.
- Provide a clear path to each installation area.
- Ensure working electricity, lighting, and climate control.
- An adult age 18 or older must be present.
Prepare Your Furniture & Rooms
If We Are Moving Your Furniture:
You Prepare:
- Remove personal, fragile, and valuable items.
- Discuss oversized, unusually heavy, or specialty items with your salesperson in advance.
- Clear closet floors and remove low-hanging items up to 3 feet above the floor.
We Prepare:
- Approved standard furniture, when included in your purchase.
- Approved appliances, with all required connections disconnected in advance.
- Returning approved items to the room after installation.
Appliances & Specialty Items
- Approved appliances may be moved when included in your purchase.
- All required utility connections must be disconnected before installation.
- Gas lines are not disconnected or reconnected by Sawyer's Flooring.
- Dishwashers are not moved. Flooring is installed up to the dishwasher, which is standard practice throughout the flooring industry.
- Fragile, oversized, unusually heavy, or specialty items must be approved in advance.
- Electronics must be unplugged and removed from the work area.
What Happens on Installation Day
- Project Review: Your lead installer will review the project with you, confirm the installation areas, explain the installation plan—including where the team will begin and how the work will progress throughout the day—and answer any last-minute questions before work begins.
- Home Protection: Drop cloths and other protective materials will be used, as appropriate, to help protect nearby floors, pathways, doorways, and surfaces.
- Preparation and Installation: Approved furniture and appliances will be moved when included. Existing flooring will be removed as needed, the subfloor will be evaluated, and your new flooring will be installed.
- Cleanup and Final Walkthrough: Installation-related debris will be removed, approved items will be returned when included, and the completed installation will be reviewed with you. Our goal is to leave the installation areas cleaner than we found them.
Common Occurrences During Installation
We aim to provide a smooth and seamless installation experience. Because flooring installation is a construction process, unexpected conditions or additional needs may occasionally arise. If they do, our team will communicate with you and review the next steps before proceeding. Dust, debris, noise, vibration, and minor cosmetic impact are all normal parts of the installation process.
- Minor scuffs or marks to walls, doors, baseboards, and quarter round may occur during installation.
- Installation on upper floors may cause nail pops in ceilings or walls below.
- Removing existing flooring may reveal hidden subfloor conditions.
- Dust and debris may extend beyond the immediate work area.
Walls, Trim, Doors, and Flooring Height
- Removing or replacing trim may expose old paint lines, caulk lines, or unfinished areas.
- New flooring may sit higher or lower than adjacent or existing flooring.
- Small gaps beneath door jambs, trim, or existing fixtures may become visible due to differences in flooring height.
- Doors may rub, drag, or require trimming after installation.
- Transitions between new and existing flooring may have a noticeable difference in height.
Trim & Painting
New baseboards or quarter round may be included in your purchase. Unless otherwise noted, new trim is installed with a factory-primed finish and is not painted.
If you would like your new trim painted, please discuss this option with your salesperson before installation. Painting may be available for an additional fee.
